Tango 178, a Dance Community

We are a community minded Argentine tango school and we’ve been running Classes on Sundays and social dancing in South London for ten years.

Our aim is to make tango accessible, affordable and fun both to learn and to dance socially.

We are now running classes and practica every Thursday .

In Tango 178’s classes you can learn the fundamentals of tango in a drop in classes or your existing skills in our second improver class.

All this can lead you to developing the skills to join our Weekly Milonga or social dance night directly after the classes.

Our dance space is the showroom, upstairs in the New Cross House in the heart of the Goldsmith’s University student district. It is a perfect space for tango with a great floor, excellent menu, wine and cocktails and friendly and supportive staff. It’s like a little piece of Buenos Aires, the spiritual home of tango.

Come learn tango and dance in the most friendly, community orientated tango scene in London!

Exciting times @ Tango178 international Maestros Veronica and Jeremias are with us for an evening of teaching and guided practica with Tango 178 on Thursday 11th April. They will give two workshops and lead a real guided practica when you can ask them for help with any aspect of dancing that you may be working on. Click here for full details and booking.

Our Approach to Argentine Tango

After our classes, our dancers can enjoy the milonga (or social dance) where we encourage a respect for how we share the dance space and all have a good time!

Our music is traditional, and focuses on the tunes that were played back in the day when tango was the ultimate URBAN dance, in the 30’s and 40’s. If you haven’t heard traditional Argentine tango music, it’s AMAZING!

The magic of tango is how a very simple combination of music, contact and movement can create a deep intimacy that is lost in everyday life. It’s not just about the closeness of the embrace and we do dance CLOSE…. the special nature of tango is that it is a ‘travelling’ dance. This means that dancers are in a constant circular flow or Ronda. This is unique to tango. What makes Tango 178 special is that it’s one of the very few dance nights in London where this can be fully appreciated and experienced. We move, as a community dancing together and moving TOGETHER.

Come to The New Cross House on Sunday evening and experience this for yourself!
